Reforestation and Revegetation Project in the DRC: A Commitment to Sustainability and Community Autonomy

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has inaugurated a remarkable reforestation and revegetation project in collaboration with ALLCOT and the NGOs Fanyatu and Graine de Vie. This project is a significant step forward in the fight against deforestation and the promotion of environmental sustainability, highlighting the DRC’s commitment to the preservation of Congo Basin forests, which are critical to global climate balance and biodiversity.

Following a thorough consultation process with local communities, the DRC’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development issued a “no objection” letter, allowing the project to begin. This participatory strategy ensures that the project not only obtains the consent of communities, but also aligns with the DRC’s national REDD plan, an initiative to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.

The project, dubbed “Permaculture through Community Participation,” aims not only to capture tons of carbon dioxide, but also to revitalize 10,000 hectares of degraded land. Through the collaboration of ALLCOT, Graine de Vie and Fanyatu, the aim is to restore ecosystems and improve the lives of local communities, transferring knowledge in permaculture and developing sustainable agricultural and energy systems.

The project, dubbed “Permaculture through Community Participation,” aims not only to capture tons of carbon dioxide, but also to revitalize 10,000 hectares of degraded land. Through the collaboration of ALLCOT, Graine de Vie and Fanyatu, it seeks to restore ecosystems and improve the lives of local communities by transferring knowledge in permaculture and developing sustainable agricultural and energy systems.

Xavier Rouget, founder and president of Fanyatu, highlights: “The idea is to make communities self-sufficient in food and energy. This project is a message of hope, showing how young Congolese are taking the initiative and committing to meaningful change.”

ALLCOT remains steadfast in its commitment to project integrity and quality, adhering to the highest international standards under the Verra VM00047 methodology. This ensures transparency and effectiveness in measuring environmental and social impact, ensuring that benefits effectively reach local communities.

Alexis Leroy, CEO and founder of ALLCOT, comments: “This project meets the standards of transparency and integrity we demand and generates significant environmental and social impacts in line with our concept of a Carbon Market for Global Equity. Our goal is to replicate this model in other countries in Africa and on other continents.”

The project, already listed with Verra, aims to mitigate deforestation, as well as empower local communities to be self-sufficient in terms of food and energy. With the planting of millions of trees and the implementation of sustainable agricultural practices, a transformative impact on both the environment and people’s lives is expected.

This breakthrough in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation in the DRC underscores the importance of collaboration between governments, NGOs and private companies to drive innovative and sustainable solutions. Focused on communities and the environment, this project offers hope for a greener and more prosperous future, both for the DRC and for the planet.”
